The 25th anniversary of a small device, but of big importance is celebrated this month. In 1982, the first piece of music was pressed onto a compact disk.

The first CD to be manufactured was “The Visitors” album by popular Swedish band ABBA. By the time CDs were introduced onto the market in November 1982, a catalogue of around 150 titles, mainly classical, had been produced.  They were sold in Japan, and then in the U.S. and Europe. It is believed that it was the CD that ushered in a technological revolution in the music industry. And 25 years later, despite many other innovations in digital entertainment, it still remains popular among music-lovers all over the world.
