Members of the Kuwaiti cabinet have resigned in a move aimed at thwarting a planned no-confidence motion against a Health Minister, who is also a member of the ruling family.

The country's Emir has accepted the resignation and according to the parliament Speaker, has appointed the Prime Minister to form a new government.Last month the Health Minister, Sheik Ahmed, defended himself against accusations of mismanagement and incompetence. But politicians were unconvinced and decided he should face a vote of no-confidence, which had been planned for Monday. His refusal to resign resulted in a stand-off between the elected parliament and the government.According to the Deputy Prime Minister, the resignations were tendered because members of the cabinet had difficulties in working with the parliament.
