The President of the Bosnian Serb Republic (Republika Srpska) Milan Jelic has died from a heart attack at the age of 51. Mr Jelic was elected to the post last October and is survived by his wife and son.
The Bosnian Serb Republic together with the Muslim-Croat Federation comprises the state of Bosnia-Hercegovina. Balkans analyst Anatoly Pomortsev says the politician had close ties with Russia. One of the results Milan Jelic’s presidency is that Russian enterprises are playing a greater role in the economy of Bosnia Herzegovina.
