Scientists in Russia's Perm region are investigating the deaths of around 40,000 birds at a poultry farm. It’s still unclear whether they were caused by bird flu.

This latest incident comes just days after dozens of chickens died of the H5N1 bird flu virus in Russia's Far East. In that case specialists suggested it could have been brought into the area by wild fowl. A quarantine is being observed in the Far East region and all domestic birds are being vaccinated.
