What is it like for a family to live in a divided country? Twenty years after the fall of the Berlin Wall, memories are fresh among Germans about the infamous barrier.

Linguistics professor Harald Weydt has shared with RT his memories. He says the reunification was a great moment. Although the idea was always in the air, not many dared to speak out about it.

“The idea was ‘always think about it but never talk about it’,” said Dr Weydt. He says he always believed that a day would come when the two Germanys would become one again. And when it eventually happened, it was “wonderful” feeling simply a German, not an East or West one.
