A trial of three retired Croatian generals, accused of killing 150 Serbs in 1995, has opened in The Hague. Ante Gotovina, Ivan Cermak and Mladen Markac are charged with attempting to remove the Serb population from the Krajina region of Croatia by force,
Gotovina was indicted in 2001, but continued to move around using false identities. He was finally captured in Spain's Canary Islands in December of 2005. All three of the accused have pleaded not guilty. Gotovina, a 52-year-old former French Foreign Legionnaire, is the final suspect from Croatia on the UN war crimes tribunal's wanted list.
