Another apparent case of abuse in the Russian army has been revealed by the prosecutors of Moscow's Military District. A 22-year-old conscript, allegedly a victim of hazing, died after beating by a sergeant who is currently missing.
The tragedy happened last December. Bullying in the Russian Army got into spotlight as a major problem following the case of Private Andrey Sychev. Doctors were forced to amputate his legs and genitals after he was tortured by fellow soldiers in December 2005.Russia's Defence Ministry has decided to create Parent Councils in military units. It is hoped they will make the conscription process more transparent and tackle issues such as army hazing.
