Abramovich returns to politics and Chukotka

Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich has returned to politics in one of the country’s remotest regions. The Chelsea football club owner has become an MP in Chukotka's parliament, having won a massive 97 per cent of the vote.

Abramovich was governor of the region for eight years, during which time he became massively popular with local people. He invested much of his own money into the area to improve infrastructure and public services, boosting one of the country's poorest regions. After quitting as governor, Abramovich had said he would concentrate on his business interests.
