Israeli, Egyptian and Jordanian leaders are gathering for a summit in the Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh to display support for Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

Israel says it is reluctant to remove roadblocks and other West Bank restrictions until the new Palestinian government does more to curb militants. Meanwhile, Israel wants from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmation that there will be more security in the Palestinian territory. On a more positive note, Israel is releasing Palestinian tax funds it has withheld since Hamas came to power in the January 2006 election. The talks will be the first since Hamas seized control of Gaza more than a week ago.
