A drone captured footage of a massive crowd of protesters who flocked to streets in Armenia’s capital Yerevan this week to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan, who also served as president for several years.

Pressured by mass protests in the capital, the prime minister decided to resign from office earlier on Monday. Demonstrations against Sargsyan erupted on April 13, sending the former Soviet republic into political turmoil. The protests in Armenia have been mostly peaceful with some exceptions. The opposition opted to disrupt traffic on Yerevan’s main streets and otherwise create trouble for the administration of the capital. Clashes between protesters and the police occasionally occurred when local law enforcers tried to clear streets blocked by rallies.
