Aer Lingus flight EI 592 from Dublin to Madrid declared an emergency and diverted to Bordeaux, France, before completing its journey thence. It became the second recent incident with the company’s craft declaring an emergency on board.
The plane departed at 7:16am CET and was scheduled to land in Madrid three-and-a-half hours later. It was diverted mid-flight, however, after declaring a medical emergency. The flight landed safely at Bordeaux–Merignac Airport, France.
“Aer Lingus flight EI 592 Dublin to Madrid diverted to Bordeaux this morning due to a medical emergency on board,” an Aer Lingus told in the JOE news outlet in a statement.
“The aircraft, with 124 guests and crew on board, landed safely at Bordeaux Airport at 10:11 (local time). The unwell guest was met by medical services at Bordeaux. All other guests remained on board and are now continuing their onward journey to Madrid with an approximate 90-minute delay.”
The incident came just in a day after another Aer Lingus flight, EI 712 from Cork to London Heathrow, made a U-turn shortly after departure due to smoke emerging from the cockpit. The passengers were evacuated through emergency exits upon returning to Cork; no one was hurt in the incident.
“The captain had declared an emergency landing and emergency services were in attendance at Cork Airport as a result,” an Aer Lingus spokesperson said.
