Magnitude 6.2 earthquake strikes remote region of Alaska

A powerful 6.2 magnitude earthquake has struck the US state of Alaska. No injuries have been reported and no tsunami warnings have been put in place.

The quake struck a remote area of ‘The Last Frontier’ at approximately 4:30am local time at a depth of 1.3 miles (2.2 kilometers), reports the USGS.  

According to a number of witness testimonies, the quake was felt in city of Whitehorse, the largest city in northern Canada and the only city in the Yukon. “Was in bed and woken up by violent shaking. Power is out,”said one witness.
