A Russian Aeroflot passenger plane en route from Zurich to Moscow diverted back to the airport in Switzerland due to “unforeseen” difficulties, according to an airport spokesman. Fire brigades have reportedly been at the scene.
Aeroflot flight SU2391 had to return to Kloten International Airport in Zurich, its spokesman Maurus Stocker said, as quoted by Swiss 20 Minuten newspaper.
The Airbus A321 was burning fuel to return to the airport, according to Swiss news website, Watson.ch.
According to the Swiss source, there has been a fire in the plane’s left engine. It also said an air traffic control agency Skyguide “has confirmed the incident on request.”
The plane took off from Zurich at 1:41pm local time (12:41pm GMT).
An hour and a half into the flight, it was circling in Swiss airspace at an altitude of 10,000 feet (3,000 meters), according to Flightradar.
There are over 150 seats on this type of aircraft.
