The Russian Defense Ministry has released footage of airstrikes delivered by Russian combat helicopters and warplanes on Islamic State forces during the operation in Palmyra.

One clip released Thursday shows two separate attacks by Mil Mi-28 helicopter gunboats on a militant armored vehicle and a fortified building, according to the ministry. Both show guided air-to-surface missiles beam-riding towards their targets.

The other video shows footage of several airstrikes taken from the air, apparently as part of reconnaissance sorties.

The footage was taken during the Syrian Army operation to retake the historic city from Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL). The Russian Air Force provided air support for the operation.
