A suicide attack targeting a French restaurant in downtown Kabul has left several people injured on New Year’s Day, local media reports.

Eight people have been injured, the local Pajhwok news agency reported. Meanwhile, TOLO News reported that four people were injured. Taliban has claimed the responsibility for the attack.

The car bomb explosion has hit "Le Jardin", one of a small number of restaurants in Kabul where foreigners eat out.

The explosion happened in Qala-e-Fathullah neighbourhood of Kabul city. Apparently a restaurant has been attacked,” interior ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi told AFP.

There are no reports yet of any casualties in the incident.

The blast comes days after the Taliban claimed responsibility for a suicide attack close to the Kabul airport that left one person dead and wounded 33 others.
