A massive attack of over 100 masked assailants on a police checkpoint in Ejin Horo Banner, in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, ended with chaos at the installation, with at least 13 people being injured and 11 vehicles burned out.
The the attack in Inner Mongolia was first reported by China Central Television (CCTV).
The attack took place on early Sunday morning in the Ejina Qi region of Alashan Prefecture, in Inner Mongolia.
At 3:30 a.m. (19:30 GMT Saturday) a large group of masked men armed with clubs disrupted electric power supply to the checkpoint, deactivated video surveillance and dispersed tear gas within the facility.
After that the assailants broke in, beating 13 people inside the installation, consisting of public employees and local farmers, who attempted to resist them.
The assault lasted for about two hours, eyewitnesses told Chinese TV. The attackers robbed their victims, taking mobile phones, clothes and other valuables.
An investigation into the incident is under way.
The region of Ejin Horo Banner and its center Ordos is famous for hosting the mausoleum of Genghis Khan, a legendary Mongol conqueror of the 13th century.
