The Russian Emergencies Ministry and the International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) have delivered medical equipment to the Malian hospital of Gabriel Toure in Bamako as humanitarian aid.

“That is very important for our bilateral relations and strengthening our friendship, which has lasted for 50 years. This humanitarian aid coincides with this anniversary,” Russian ambassador to Mali Aleksey Duljan told Interfax news agency.

Dulyan said that the equipment is very important for the hospital. He discussed this with the country’s Minister of Health and Public Hygiene Marie-Madeleine Togo.

“The minister said that here, in Mali, first aid does not function really well. They need support in training staff to use equipment and in general medical practice,” he told Interfax news agency, adding that Russian doctors worked at Gabriel Toure hospital until 1991.

In 2014, Russia gave $2 million to ICDO as a target contribution to provide the hospital of Gabriel Toure with surgical, intensive care, neonatal and other equipment.
