Police have launched a murder inquiry after the managing director of Russia’s second largest bank, VTB, was found dead at his home near Moscow. Oleg Zhukovsky's body was discovered on Thursday in the cottage's swimming pool with his hands and legs tied.

Investigators are treating the death as suspicious despite finding a suicide note at the scene. Zhukovsky headed state-run VTB's lending operations in Russia's US $19 billion-a-year logging industry. His colleagues say he had no obvious reasons to commit suicide. The RIA-Novosti news agency quoted an unnamed source in the investigation as saying the preliminary examination showed the cause of death was drowning. The Kommersant newspaper's website reported Zhukovsky had his arms tied and his body bore signs of torture. Police say the cause of the man's death will be known after an autopsy.
