Chinese car slammed - in word and deed

A car magazine is calling for the withdrawal of a Chinese car, the Chery Amulet, from the Russian market.

AutoRevu magazine conducted a crash-test with the model – and says it was one of the worst performances ever. A clip of the test posted on YouTube has attracted almost 163,000 viewers. The AvtoRevu article suggests that the Chinese might have cut costs on the model by using low quality steel. Chery says the test was biased, as the laboratory that conducted it is owned by Russian car maker Avtovaz – a competitor. Russia is China's biggest auto-export market, and at $US 9,000, the Amulet is its hottest-selling model in the country.
