Civilian deaths in Libya: who’s killing who?

In Libya, where NATO-backed NTC forces are attempting to wipe out the last remaining pro-Gaddafi strongholds, civilians are still being killed but normally-vocal countries backing a UN resolution to protect them have gone strangely quiet.

Black migrants barred from fleeing Libya

Libya's National Transitional Council (NTC) wants to screen some 3,000 migrant workers, most of whom are of sub-Saharan origin, to identify Gaddafi mercenaries among them. They will not be allowed out of the country until the process is completed.

UK: champion arms trader or champion of democracy?

As British premier David Cameron ends a triumphant visit to Tripoli to celebrate the end of Muammar Gaddafi's dictatorial rule, British arms dealers are working flat out to keep other brutal regimes in power.

Cameron, Sarkozy milk premature Tripoli triumph

The French president and British PM have visited Tripoli to declare victory over Muammar Gaddafi’s regime and reap the benefits of his fall, but it appears the celebrations are somewhat premature.

Muammar Gaddafi’s spokesman accused NATO of killing more than 350 people in the town of Sirte overnight, as well as thousands of civilians in the last 17 days.

In a telephone call to Reuters on Saturday, Moussa Ibrahim, a spokesman for the deposed Libyan leader, said that 354 people were killed as a result of NATO airstrike on a residential building and a hotel in Gaddafi’s hometown of Sirte.

"NATO attacked the city of Sirte last night with more than 30 rockets directed at the city's main hotel and the Tamin building, which consists of more than 90 residential apartments," Ibrahim said. "The result is more than 354 dead and 89 still missing and almost 700 injured in one night."

He added that many more have been killed in Sirte in NATO air attacks since the beginning of September.

"In the last 17 days, more than 2,000 residents of the city of Sirte were killed in NATO air strikes," Ibrahim told the news agency.

NATO spokesman Colonel Roland Lavoie said that the alliance is aware of the allegations but did not confirm or deny the information.

"We are aware of these allegations," he said. "It is not the first time such allegations have been made. Most often, they are revealed to be unfounded or inconclusive."

The information cannot be independently verified due to a lack of communication to Sirte, Reuters reported.

Heavy fighting is continuing between Gaddafi loyalists and the forces of the National Transitional Council, the interim Libyan governing body.

Gaddafi loyalists launched a fierce counter-attack in the city of Bani Walid and are continuing their resistance in Sirte, the Al Jazeera television network reported.

Despite the resistance, NTC military spokesman Ahmed Bani has given Gaddafi loyalists an ultimatum: join the ranks of the new authorities, or be considered traitors.

"The soldiers and officers who will not heed this last call will be accused of high treason," he said, noting that the fall of the two cities is now a “matter of days.”

Who is going to protect the civilians in these cities under attack with shells and rockets by these gangs and thugs?  Who is going to protect the civilians from NATO bombs?

The UN is a facade, an apparatus of  NATO.

There is no point in shaming Russia.  It is no longer relevant on the world stage.  Russia is more like a Polish Bear.  Russia drools while the blood feast is going on, and any response is disingenous, more out of envy than sincerity.

I am very sure NATO war criminals need hanging, no oil to imperialists who kill and claim human rights. No private central bank.

Nurnberg trials to be done with western politicians. Show them to be public. Betrayers of humaity desrve nothing less. Do they think they will laugh to us and kill innocents as they wish, cause bankers want debt out of wars and their political puppets do everything  told by them ?

Lets buy out all media or instigate a new Capitalist revolution or something in Russia for a change ?

UN says it opposes war, but the fact is, its easily manipulated into a machine that serves bad wealthy people. IMF go to hell as well. Banker scum off the face of the earth, usurers behind these crimes. Still, those directly responsible need to be met with justice. And blind justice as it is, is pretty bad for the imperialists, since they would need to cut entire forest to have something to hang them on.
