“US trying to use Iraq recipe in Afghanistan”

British journalists as well as the Taliban themselves have said that putting more troops into Afghanistan means just more targets for the Taliban, says German journalist and author Christoph Horstel, speaking to RT.

One result from that will be an upsurge in fighting and more NATO soldiers coming back from Afghanistan in coffins. On the other hand, there will be no result in terms of better control over Afghanistan, he adds.

“Interestingly, that’s not the strategy. The strategy is, as the Obama government put it, to protect the population centers, but that was exactly what the Soviet Union did shortly before they went out – and that strategy had to fail because it put the roads to reach these population centers under control of the resistance, and that’s what is going to happen now,” Horstel says.
