'I don't want to get cloned': Bizarre case as UFC fighter has blood taken, but doesn't know by whom

'I don't want to get cloned': Bizarre case as UFC fighter has blood taken, but doesn't know by whom

UFC featherweight Dan Ige assumed he was being asked to submit to a USADA drug-test when he received an early morning knock on his door - which he provided - but the identity of the anonymous tester remains a mystery.

Ige, who has posted a 3-1 record in the Octagon, says he is used to providing drug samples on request as part of the UFC's partnership with the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA) and thought nothing of the 6.30am call to his door asking for a sample, however alarm bells first began to go off when the sampler mistakenly called him 'John'.

"I'm subject to testing at all times so did not think twice. I'm thinking USADA," Ige said to FloCombat, adding that he did not ask to see the tester's credentials.

"The lady was really nice, don't get me wrong. We get to the paperwork and I gave my name. I said: 'Ige, first name Dan.' And she's like: 'Oh, you're not John?' I'm like: 'John? No, I don't know who John is.'"

Ige assumes that the tester intended to visit with a neighbor of his but arrived at the wrong address. He visited the nearby address and confirmed with the resident that he had been scheduled to provide a blood test to a laboratory.

He says that he called the laboratory in question but they were unable to provide any further clarity as to what will be done with his sample, or even where exactly it is.

"I want to get my blood back. I don't want to get cloned or end up at a crime scene," Ige explained.

Ige most recently fought just over a month ago in London's O2 Arena, where he defeated Scotland's Danny Henry by first round rear-naked choke, a win which earned him his maiden 'Performance of the Night' bonus with the organization.

The UFC, meanwhile, have investigated the matter and have determined that the entire incident appears to be a coincidence.

"The UFC has been in contact with Dan this morning," a spokesperson for the UFC said. "While it looks like this sample collection was intended for a neighbor and completely unrelated to USADA or the UFC, we advised Dan to contact law enforcement and we will support Dan to track down the details of this mistake."
