Flooding forces Croatia training session relocation ahead of World Cup quarterfinal

Flooding has caused Croatia’s training session to be switched to Sochi from its original location in nearby Adler. The team are currently preparing for their World Cup quarterfinal versus Russia on Saturday.

Severe rain has battered the resort town on Russia’s Black Sea Coast, causing the Friday evening training session to be moved nearer to Fisht Stadium, where the game will be played, FIFA said in a statement.

“Due to inclement weather conditions, the Croatian official training session scheduled to take place at Adler #1 has been moved to Park Arena across from Fisht Stadium in Sochi,” the statement read.

Croatia take on hosts Russia at Fisht Stadium Sochi on Saturday, searching for their first World Cup semifinal since their debut at a finals at France 98. The relocation won't have been the ideal preparation for captain Luka Modric and co.

For Russia, it is the first time the team have reached the quarter finals of the World Cup in their history, having beaten Spain in a dramatic penalty shootout int he last 16 stage.
