It won’t go down as a World Cup classic but Sweden have set up a quarter-final date with either England or Colombia, defeating Switzerland in St. Petersburg in a match which enthralled, and occasionally frustrated, fans.
A second-half strike courtesy of Emil Forsberg (via a wicked deflection from Swiss defender Manuel Akanji, it must be noted) has continued Sweden’s improbable journey into the World Cup’s latter stages.

The Scandinavian side have already played a part in ousting defending champions Germany from the tournament, as well as Italy and the Netherlands in the pre-tournament qualification pools, and will enter their last eight clash on Saturday confident of producing another seismic shock.
However, as has been noted by many fans on social media, the Swedes will have to iron out the type of attacking deficiencies which were all too frequently on display from both sides in today’s tie.
