Mexico’s run at Russia 2018 has come to an end after goals from Neymar and Roberto Firmino’s secured the South American side’s place in the last eight with a 2-0 win inside the Samara Arena.
Five-times winners Brazil have done their part in setting up a tantalizing quarter final clash with Belgium as Neymar’s 57th international goal and a late strike from Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino eased them into the latter stages of a competition in which they must be considered among the favorites to win.
Neymar, meanwhile, has taken the brunt of the criticism for what many fans saw as unsportsmanlike play-acting during the game.
Congrats to Mexico on a valiant World Cup run, including an opening stunner against Germany. You did North American and CONCACAF football proud. #BRAMEX— Bryan Behar (@bryanbehar) July 2, 2018
