Episode 116

Few professions are as admired and respected as the firefighter. When others flee they go forward, into the fire. Yet almost without a single alarm bell sounding, Britain's fire services are under attack. Paul Embery, London secretary of the Fire Brigades Union joins Sputnik this week to tell us how he is trying to stop fire service cuts and the closures of fire stations which are now starting to cost lives.

Howard Blake OBE is a world famous composer. From ‘The Snowman’ to ‘Flash Gordon,’ he's worked with everyone including Queen and David Bowie. But it was the Charter of the United Nations and an encounter with the real Queen that caught our eye. So, we invited him into the Sputnik studio to tell us his story.
