In 1990 on this day the legislature of the Russian Federation, which was still a Soviet republic, declared its sovereignty. In a year and a half the Soviet Union stopped existing, and this day became known as Independence Day. Today it’s celebrated as Russia Day. What do Russians celebrate this day?
