Tolstoy on screen
Russian literature has inspired many Western film directors. Remember, for example, the American film ‘War and Peace,’ starring Audrey Hepburn and Henry Fonda. Or take the British movie ‘Onegin,’ with Ralph Fiennes and Liv Tyler. One filmmaker in the UK is so fond of Russian literature that he’s filmed five adaptations of Leo Tolstoy’s work. The latest one – ‘The Boxing Day’ – was shown at this year’s New British Film Festival in Moscow. His name is Bernard Rose, and he’s my guest on the show today.
