Lyudmila Verbitskaya is one of the brightest representatives of Russia's contemporary clerisy. She has devoted her life to St. Petersburg State University, which she graduated from in 1958 and then became the head of in 1994. During this time, the vast majority of the contemporary Russian political and business elite graduated from the university, including Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev - to name but a few. Being a profound Russian philologist, Lyudmila is also the President of the St. Petersburg branch of the Association of English speakers. It was created under the patronage of The British Queen. Lyudmila was in charge of the university for 14 years and in 2008, became its president. Lyudmila has been named an Honorary citizen of St. Petersburg for her contribution to education.
Today we will discuss the problems of education and science, facing the newly elected president of Russia. These two subjects were named by the current president Vladimir Putin among the priorities of his presidency and Dmitry Medvedev was responsible for the National Projects for the last two years. Our guest today is a close ally to both men, Lyudmila Verbitskaya, the president of Saint Petersburg State University, who was named the most successful business lady of Russia last month. The University, which she has been heading since 1994, gave the higher education to both Vladimir Putin and Dmitry Medvedev.
