Vassily Aksyonov, novelist
Today’s program is dedicated to legendary Russian and Soviet writer Vasily Aksyonov who passed away this week in one of Moscow’s clinics after a serious stroke. Aksyonov, the author of more than 20 novels, was a steadfast anti-totalitarian. He was one of the dissidents forced to flee the Soviet Union in 1980. For many Russians his name symbolizes resistance to the Communist cultural and ideological restrictions. Vasily Aksyonov was a guest in the Spotlight studio a while ago. Now we have a dedication to the man who dared to confront the totalitarian regime in Russia – the last interview Vasily Aksyonov gave to Russia Today.
