Russia has announced a breakthrough COVID-19 vaccine, thus becoming the first country to claim the accomplishment. Critics remain worried about possible dangers, pointing out that in its haste to defeat the novel coronavirus, Russia skipped some of the usual testing protocols. Meanwhile, the US is racing toward a vaccine of its own, with President Trump insisting that the US is close to several options and that the military stands ready to mobilize and administer the vaccine.
