Schisms in the Orthodox Church & Voter Suppression in the US
Anya Parampil reports on potential changes in the Orthodox Church, after Constantinople took steps towards recognizing the Ukrainian Orthodox Church as separate from Russia. The US State Department says it supports moves towards recognizing Ukrainian autocephaly, or independence, within the Orthodox Church, leading some to question what’s motivating the split. Anya speaks with former US Diplomat Jim Jatras and RT Correspondent Alex Mihailovich to discuss how these developments in the Church could potentially lead to more violence in Ukraine, as anti-Russia sentiment has spread in the country following the 2014 US backed coup. Later in the show, Anya updates viewers on recent charges against Russian national Elena Alekseevna Khusyaynova, who the US accuses of spreading “distrust towards candidates for political office and the political system in general”. Anya then asks which is a bigger threat to the US election system: Russian troll farms, or the GOP’s push to remove millions of Americans from the voter rolls? Jacqueline Luqman, co-Editor of Luqman Nation, joins In Question to ask why democrats aren’t making a bigger issue out of voter disenfranchisement.
