At the age of 26, he became a professor of the Moscow Conservatory. His life was a curious mixture of success and failure. That’s why he is inseparable from his music. Edvard Grieg wrote about him: “He is melancholic almost to the point of madness”. Not all of Tchaikovsky’s works were appreciated by his contemporaries but these days it’s clear that his legacy is tremendous and priceless.
