The fall of Berlin

The battle for Berlin lasted two weeks. Three-and-a-half million troops from both sides, Soviet and German, took part in the fight. Some ten thousand tanks, thousands of artillery, and eleven thousand aircraft were involved in the fight. There was no other operation of that scale in World War II, and it was won by the Soviets. The Red Flag was raised atop the Reichstag in May, 1945, and became the symbol of the victory over fascism.
