The fall of Berlin

The battle for Berlin lasted for two weeks. Three-and-a-half million troops from both sides, Soviet and German, took part in the fight. Some 10,000 tanks, thousands of artillery, and 11,000 aircraft were involved in the fight. There was no other operation of that scale in World War II, and it was won by the Red Army. The Red Flag was raised atop the Reichstag in May 1945, and it became the symbol of victory over fascism.
