The Commander Islands: Terra incognita

­This place is located 175 kilometers east of the Kamchatka peninsula in the Russian Far East, in the Bering Sea. It was named after Commander Vitus Bering, who served in the Russian Fleet. Here you’ll meet marine mammals, seals, sea lions, harbor seals and other animals and birds. The only permanently inhabited place here is the village of Nikolskoe. Some 600 people live here.
