Transgender Injustice, Albuquerque police abuse, US sailors dying from radiation

On this episode of Breaking the Set, Abby Martin remarks on the unprecedented case of a transgender teenager in Connecticut who is being held at an adult female prison, while prison officials debate sending her to a youth male prison, and calls out the ignorance and discrimination in the state’s decision. Abby then reports on the death of a man in LA who was shot and killed by police after being mistaken for the perpetrator of a knife attack, and highlights other cases of deadly force used by police in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and is joined by RT’s Ramon Galindo to discuss the Department of Justice’s investigation on the issue. Abby then features a report by RT’s Ameera David on the crew of the USS Ronald Reagan, who were exposed to high doses of radiation following the meltdown at Fukushima in Japan, and discusses the class action lawsuit against Japan’s energy company TEPCO for the adverse health effects the sailors are experiencing. BTS wraps up the show with an exclusive interview and musical performance by politically conscious Iraqi-Canadian hip hop artist, Yassim ‘The Narcicyst’ Alsalman, performing the songs ‘Leap of Faith’ and ‘Sumeria’.
