Putin's prominent supporters rally to back his course

Hundreds of Russians from voluntary organisations have gathered in the city of Tver to voice their support for President Putin's political course. They've come from eighty regions to push for the President's policies to be continued.

Among the crowd were famous actors, surgeons, TV anchors and members of different youth organizations.

They've vowed to support the dominant United Russia, headed by the President, at the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Member of the Public Council and renowned lawyer Pavel Astakhov said he sees the December parliamentary election as a referendum on confidence in the current political course.

“He was not afraid to stand for a general election which will show the amount of trust people have in him and his political course. That is why on the second of December we will in fact be holding a referendum on confidence on President Putin's political course, confidence in our President,” commented Mr. Astakhov.
