Early vote held in Russia’s Far North

An early vote in the presidential election has taken place on the Franz Joseph Land archipelago – the most northerly point in Russia. People unable to reach the mainland from their Arctic Ocean islands for the March 2 ballot have been casting t

The voting papers, polling booths and the one and only ballot box were delivered by plane to the post from the mainland.

Several dozen border guards and their family members have already cast their ballots.

Authorities in the Arkhangelsk region say the early vote is continuing on vessels which will be at sea on the day of the presidential election.
