S. Korea’s govt expects to sign revised trade deal with US in September

South Korea’s Trade Ministry expects to sign a revised bilateral trade agreement with the United States in September, the minister Kim Hyun-chong told parliament on Tuesday. The two countries in March agreed “in principle” to revise the trade pact sharply criticized by US President Donald Trump, Reuters said. Seoul is not the main target of the proposed US tariffs on foreign vehicles as the country made concessions in the auto sector in the recently revised free trade agreement (FTA), the trade minister said. “Rather than South Korea, I think [the US auto tariffs] mainly target other auto manufacturing countries, such as Mexico, Canada, Japan and the European Union,” Kim said, as cited by Yonhap. “We are making our best efforts to get relief from the US auto tariffs.”
