Operator of Genoa bridge sets aside €500 million to help city recover from tragic collapse

The Italian toll-road operator Autostrade per I’Italia, which manages the bridge that collapsed in Genoa, has set aside around €500 million (US$572 million) to help the city recover from the disaster, Reuters reported. It comes after a 200-meter (656-foot) section of the Morandi viaduct gave way on Tuesday, killing at least 42 people and injuring 15 others. When asked to give an apology for the collapse during Autostrade’s first news conference since the disaster, the company’s chief executive, Giovanni Castellucci, said he would wait for investigators to determine the exact cause.
