Bout will get fair trial: Thailand

The Thai Foreign Ministry says the rights of alleged arms dealer Viktor Bout, arrested in Bangkok, are being observed. They added that Bout has the right to a just trial, his imprisonment conditions are fair and his security provided for.

Earlier the Russian Foreign Ministry summoned the Thai ambassador over allegations that the rights of Bout were being violated.

Bout was arrested in Bangkok on March 6 at the request of the United States.

Washington is seeking his extradition on charges of selling weapons to terrorists.

Viktor Bout formally asked the Russian government to take measures to secure his release, and Russia’s Foreign Ministry pledged it would protect Bout’s rights.
