Thousands gathered in front of Utah State Capitol in Salt Lake City on Saturday to decry the government’s plan to shrink two state national monuments. The protest took place two days ahead of the official visit of the US President Donald Trump to Utah’s capital. Native Americans in national costumes, alongside demonstrators with banners reading “Save Bears Ears”, “Protect Wild Utah” and “Hands off Utah”, called for the monuments to be preserved.
