Bosnian Croats lit candles in honor of former general Slobodan Praljak in Mostar on Wednesday evening. Large numbers of people left more candles in his hometown Capljina on Thursday. Praljak, a convicted war criminal, took poison after his appeal at the International Criminal Court in the Hague was turned down on Wednesday. He was taken to hospital but died shortly thereafter.

Praljak was appealing a 2013 conviction for crimes against humanity in Mostar during the 1992-1995 Bosnian war.
