Thousands of Peruvians celebrated on Wednesday as their team qualified for the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Football enthusiasts lit flares and waved national flags as they lauded their team’s victory. Peru defeated New Zealand 2-0 in Lima in the second leg of their 2018 World Cup play-off, following a goalless draw on November 11. It is the first time in 36 years that Peru has qualified for a World Cup tournament, with next year’s event being held in Russia.
