Hundreds of pro-Catalan independence demonstrators, most of them students, stormed the Sants railway station in Barcelona, Wednesday, following a march protesting the detention of former Catalan government members. Several incoming trains were cancelled, with a knock-on effect on scheduled departures. A similar demonstration was held downtown in Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes, where activists faced down police. Protesters were blocking the road when police tried to intervene. In the ensuing rush, protestors began chanting “Spanish police out, out, out,” and “forces of occupation out, out, out.”
