The violence erupted as activists took to the streets of the Argentine capital Buenos Aires on Saturday demanding justice for Santiago Maldonado after what is alleged to be his dead body was found in the Chubut River earlier this week.
The march was convened by the Encounter Memory, Truth and Justice (EMVJ) organization. A group of hooded protesters can be seen hurling stones in downtown Buenos Aires, causing damages to building facades and parked cars. Santiago Maldonado has been missing since going into police custody in Chubut province in early August. His disappearance was highly politicized and sparked a national outcry. The body was reportedly identified on Friday by his brother; an autopsy is underway to determine the cause of death.
