Tensions flared as activists of Neo-Nazi movement marched on Saturday in the Berlin borough of Spandau to pay tribute to Hitler’s deputy, Rudolf Hess, when they faced off with counter-protesters. Dozens of local police escorted the demonstration to prevent the violence. According to media estimates the crowd of counter-protesters ranged from 500 to 1,500 which was larger than the participants of the rally. Rudolf Hess committed suicide in Spandau prison at the age of 93 in 1987. Neo-Nazis have claimed that Hess was murdered in jail.
