Activists from the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) set off on a 450km march from Ankara to Istanbul on Thursday, after Enis Berberoglu was sentenced on June 14 to 25 years in prison.  The CHP member of parliament was convicted of allegedly leaking 'state secrets' to the press. Demonstrators held placards reading "justice" and chanted Berberoglu s name as they headed towards the Maltepe prison, where he is being held. Scuffles erupted between police and some of the protesters, who confronted a handful of activists on the sidelines of the march route.
