Hundreds of activists took the streets of Barcelona Saturday to protest rising property prices and the huge number of tourists in the Catalonian capital. People carried banners with slogans reading "Tourists welcome, locals not welcome" and "Barcelona is not for sale". In 2016, some 32 million of people visited Barcelona which has a population of 1.6 million. In January 2017 the local government passed a law to reduce the number of tourists by limiting the building or licensing of new tourist properties.
